What is it?
Personal care is general care that you would usually attend to yourself, such as showering and dressing, but are unable to due to your particular health issues. It is health care that does not necessarily need to be provided by a registered nurse. We believe that before you receive personal care from someone who is not a nurse (e.g. a personal care worker from your local council or another service provider), a nursing assessment is beneficial. An RDNS nurse can assess your needs and develop a safe and effective care plan, so that your carers are able to provide appropriate care. Sometimes your personal care needs are best provided by an RDNS nurse or by a personal care worker supervised by an RDNS nurse.
Which staff can help?
All of our nurses are skilled in assessing personal care needs, developing a care plan to suit you and providing skilled personal care. We also can provide community care workers, who are carers trained by RDNS and work under the supervision of our nurses. A community care worker can provide personal care, support and companionship to you and has access to a nurse at any time if concerns arise or if your health changes.
