What is it?
Royal District Nursing Service (RDNS) has several Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Social Workers.
The primary role of our Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists is to work alongside our nursing staff to assess appropriate manual handling and safe work postures for staff and carers.
Our Occupational Therapists can help you by:
- Working alongside our nursing staff to assess your current daily activities such as personal care;
- Offering you strategies for practical, independent living;
- Advising on changes in your home and the use of specialised equipment to ensure greater independence and personal safety;
- Advising on caring for a frail, sick or confused person; and
- Assessing your needs and making referrals for on-going services as required.
Our Physiotherapists can help you by:
- Performing mobility assessments
- Designing exercise programs
- Advising on pain relief methods
- Helping you care for a frail, sick or confused older person
- Advising on the use of equipment such as walking frames, hoists, and wheelchairs
- Assessing your needs and referring you for on-going services as required
Our Social Workers can help you by:
- Advising about options for aged care
- Providing bereavement and relationship counselling
- Advising about physical and psychiatric disability care options
- Advising and assisting with Guardianship and Administration List applications
- Advising about legal and financial matters
- Assisting with community advocacy and liaison
- Supporting family and carers in complex care situations
- Advising about child protection issues
- Assessing your needs and referring you for on-going services as required.

If you are already an RDNS client, ask your primary nurse to arrange an allied health referral.
