Anyone can be referred to Royal District Nursing Service, and we accept referrals from any source. You can phone us yourself, or be referred by a family member or carer. General practitioners, hospitals and other health care providers can also refer clients.
If you are in a major hospital, an RDNS hospital 'liaison' nurse (District Nurse - Liaison) can help arrange your home nursing care and make sure your discharge goes smoothly. RDNS hospital liaison nurses are available at many public hospitals. Ask the hospital staff to arrange a visit from the RDNS liaison nurse.
Overview of fees
Although under very specific circumstances we are able to deliver services free-of-charge, most of our clients will be charged a fee for the care we provide. There is a wide range of fees that apply, depending on a person’s circumstances.
For example, a client who is eligible under the Home and Community Care (HACC) Program is able to receive RDNS care at the cost of $3.00 per visit, capped at $36.00 per month.
At the other end of the spectrum is the client who wishes to receive expert care from RDNS, but who does not qualify under any specific care or subsidy program. In this instance, the client will pay a rate of $70.00 for each hour of care provided.
Of course within this spectrum, there are many different models of care, each with their own fee structure. Once we understand your specific care needs, we will be able to tell you what fees apply to you.
To understand more about our services and fee structure, and to have one of our qualified staff assess your needs, or that of a loved one, call us on 1300 33 44 55. This line operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
