Anyone can be referred to Royal District Nursing Service, and we accept referrals from any source. You can phone us yourself, or be referred by a family member or carer.
If you are in a major hospital, an RDNS hospital 'liaison' nurse (District Nurse - Liaison) can help arrange your home nursing care and make sure your discharge goes smoothly. RDNS hospital liaison nurses are available at many public hospitals. Ask the hospital staff to arrange a visit from the RDNS liaison nurse.
General practitioners, hospitals and other health care providers can also refer clients.
Before RDNS can start providing care to you, your nursing needs need to be properly assessed. To have one of our qualified staff assess your needs, or that of a loved one, call us on 1300 33 44 55. This line operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
If you are a health industry professional and would like to refer a client, please call 1300 687 7464 (1300 NURSING) to have one of our qualified staff assess your client's home nursing needs.
Healthcare professionals must provide RDNS with a client's medical history and diagnosis. Medical authorisations and medicine intake authorisations are also required.
