Generations of care in your community

Royal District Nursing Service (RDNS) is sincerely grateful for the donations, bequests, and generosity of the people of Melbourne. It is this generosity that has helped make the organisation one of the world's premier home healthcare services today.

Government funding covers approximately 80% of RDNS services, leaving one-fifth of total funding to be obtained by other means. As our ageing population increases and hospitals continue to discharge patients early, the need for RDNS nurses grows stronger.

Fundraising for our future

It is the donations, bequests, memorial gifts and corporate partnership support received by RDNS that allows RDNS to continue. This vital community support gives RDNS the capacity to supply the truly personal, individualised and compassionate care that has become our hallmark.

Wills and bequests

How your Will could benefit RDNS

Your kindness and generosity helps RDNS train additional nurses, purchase equipment and develop new ways of doing things to meet the growing need. Without bequests, RDNS would be unable to continue providing the many thousands of additional clients with the same compassionate, quality care enjoyed by so many.

Your bequest to RDNS gives you the opportunity to help build a healthier future and share in the alleviation of suffering, pain and inequality. You could not leave a more worthwhile legacy.

Your gift to the future

You gain a tremendous feeling of satisfaction when you make a bequest to RDNS. It is so rewarding to know that your gift will have a tangible and ongoing benefit to future generations.

There are a number of ways to make a gift through your Will to RDNS. Some of these include:

Giving a specific amount of money;

Providing a percentage of your estate to RDNS, allowing for expansion or contraction of your assets without disadvantaging other beneficiaries;

Leaving to RDNS the residual of your estate, following settlement of the gifts you have made to other beneficiaries;

Making a bequest to RDNS that will take effect following the death of your spouse. (This allows your spouse to enjoy the full benefit of your estate with your gift coming to RDNS only after your spouse dies); or

Arranging for the establishment of a specific or general perpetual trust to benefit RDNS. (This is a way you would be remembered in perpetuity, as the interest from your gift would annually assist RDNS. It is best to do this in consultation with RDNS.)

No matter what you may decide, you can be assured that RDNS is committed to making every gift count.

Making a gift to RDNS

Including the RDNS in your Will is simple, but as with all legal matters, the wording is important if your wishes are to be carried out. To assist you, RDNS suggests the following wording, but please consult your solicitor before making or changing your Will.

I, . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . devise and bequeath unto the Royal District Nursing Service (RDNS), 31 Alma Road, ST KILDA, for its general purpose (insert sum of money, residue of estate, % of estate, or property/item). I direct that the receipt of the Chief Executive Officer or other proper officer shall be sufficient discharge to my executors.

Making a donation

All donations over $2 to RDNS are fully tax deductible. A receipt is issued and returned to you within days of receiving your gift. If you wish, you can subscribe to our regular newsletter. You can support RDNS now by simply completing the 'Donation' form included on this website, printing it, and then mailing, faxing or emailing it to us at RDNS.

Memorial gifts

"Next to love, the gift of caring is surely the greatest love of all."

A donation to RDNS in the memory of a loved one, friend or colleague is a meaningful and lasting way to remember that person. It is a way to honour their memory whilst bringing healing and comfort to others.

Families often choose gifts to RDNS in lieu of flowers at a funeral, particularly if RDNS nurses have cared for their loved one.

To assist families with this, RDNS has specially prepared memorial gift envelopes for use or distribution at funerals.

All donations made via RDNS in memorial envelopes are collected and the name of the deceased is recognised in our annual report. The next of kin are also provided with a specially prepared list of those who made a gift to RDNS in memory of their loved one.
